Exploring Vermont’s Mad River Valley

Vermont is known for its long winters, well maybe not this year, but those long nights dreaming of summer are finally over. When the weather is cool and pleasant, the grass gets greener everyday, and the scenery takes your breath away. The beautiful backdrop and temperate weather make our backyard perfect for all your favorite outdoor activities.

So, is summer really summer without a few rounds of golf? Nearby Sugarbush Resort, only a five-minute drive from us, is simply gorgeous. Designed with the natural landscape in mind, it has a lovely view of the Green Mountains, and really makes you feel like you’re a part of the natural surroundings. Take a deep breath!

If you’re not playing your best game, you can practice with a resident PGA pro on the driving range. Add in the custom club fitting and golf clinics for people of all ages (even juniors), and you have a day of golfing that’ll quickly become a bragging right.

Then again, summer is the perfect time to get out for some adventure; you know that bicycle ride you’ve been meaning to take? Now you can really soak up and enjoy the beautiful vistas of Vermont’s Mad River Valley. But your biking trip wouldn’t be complete without a mountain biking tour with Blueberry Lake Trails. These mountain biking trails were designed with help from the U.S. Forest Service, with levels of difficulty from beginner to expert, in case it really has been a long time since you last rode your bike. Simply, it’s the best way to see the Green Mountains in a whole new way.

If you’re looking for a less extreme experience, there are plenty of scenic routes to take advantage of, our personal favorite, the Mad River Path. Stretching from Warren to Moretown, a bike ride here allows you to travel through forests & farms, on dirt roads & bridges, all while being immersed in Vermont’s natural landscape.

And if hiking is what you love, Vermont didn’t forget about you. There are opportunities to your left and right in the Mad River Valley, literally. An abundance of trails lead from the bottom of the riverbanks to their high summits. Trails vary in challenge and length, and most trails even allow dogs, so you don’t have to leave your furry best friend behind. Explore the options and decide which trail is best for you. Your hiking expedition can be anything you want it to be, a romantic picnic, or an invigorating physical challenge with a partner.

With all the revitalizing outdoor activities to keep you entertained, bookended by the gorgeous home base of The Pitcher Inn, your vacation to Vermont’s Mad River Valley is sure to make memories that will last a lifetime. We look forward to hosting you!
