Explore the Mad River Valley Like a Local
People come to Vermont and the Mad River Valley to get out and explore our mountains, farms, fields and waterways. To make it easy for guests to find and explore the hidden gems in the valley, we have put together an Experiences Program to help you optimize your stay and to leave the details to us and our Experiences Director Sam Chambers. Sam has curated six winter adventures to help you relax and explore our beautiful corner of Vermont.
Mad River Valley Ramble (from $225 per hour, up to two couples)
We love our backroads and will escort you on a one-hour tour (including plenty of natural and cultural history) of the Mad River Valley in our comfortable, spacious Volvo XC90.
Blueberry Lake Skating (from $225 per trip, plus rentals)
Sometimes nothing can compare to gliding along on glass-like ice on a cold winter day. We will transport you to Blueberry Lake (just 5 minutes from the inn), get you onto the ice, and then pick you up when you’re sufficiently skated out.
Slide Brook Snowshoe (from $150 per person for two hours, plus rentals)
This is a more rigorous two-hour adventure for active guests. Slide Brook sits between the two Sugarbushes, Lincoln Peak to the south and Glen Ellen to the north. It’s wild and wonderful and seen best from the logging roads that crisscross it, with an expert guide to show you the way.
Alpine Skiing Adventure ($600 per person for three hours, plus lift passes)
Perhaps you’re seeking to improve your skiing technique or just learn a new move. We will transport you to Sugarbush or Mad River Glen, where Sam will provide professional ski coaching for two hours and then he’ll let you work on what you have learned for the rest of the day.
Classic Cross-Country Skiing at Blueberry Lake (from $200 per person for one hour, plus rentals)
Another way to see our beautiful valley is atop a pair of skis at one of Vermont’s most storied cross-country ski centers founded by local legend Lenord Robinson. We’ll transport you and guide you for the first hour, then pick you up when you’re ready to return to the inn for a warm drink and meal.
Skate Skiing at Ole’s (from $250 per person for one hour, plus rentals)
If your technique tends more to skate skiing, then Ole’s is the place for you. We’ll transport you, get you set up with equipment, and offer an hour of skate skiing lessons, then off you go for as long as you want before heading back to the inn.
Please note that many of these adventures require Mother Nature’s cooperation so we ask that you be flexible. We will do our best to optimize your fun. Also, all adventures can be combined with a to-go meal from the Warren Store or the inn’s kitchen, with a day’s notice.
As the season’s change we will be developing other outings like road biking (with electric bikes), mountain biking, horseback riding, bird watching, hiking, soaring and paragliding (for the really adventurous), farm tours, kayaking and canoeing, and stand-up paddle boarding. We can even arrange for a sailing trip to Lake Champlain, one of the nation’s premier (and underutilized) sailing destinations, only an hour away.
All of our adventures can be customized to meet your particular needs. Just tell us how you want to enjoy your time with us and we’ll curate a bespoke Mad River Valley adventure.
