Here at the Pitcher Inn, you’ve got a friendly seat at the table for the diverse bounty and delicious flavors of our Mad River Valley foodshed. Not long ago here at the blog we talked up the awesome Mad River Taste Place (and upcoming Mad River Taste Week in August). Today we wanted to spotlight another awesome element of our local agriculture and food scene, and one equally convenient for our Pitcher Inn guests: the Waitsfield Farmers Market, going in full swing just a few minutes away!
The Waitsfield Farmers Market
Begun on May 19th and running through October 13th, the Waitsfield Farmers Market goes down on Saturdays from 9 AM to 1 PM on the town green in the charming hamlet of Waitsfield—five easy miles from the Pitcher Inn here in Warren.
Here you’ll find a fabulous roster of local producers—Clearfield Farm, Floodwoods Farm, Sunshine Valley Berry Farm, Three Shepherds Cheese, and many more—selling vegetables and fruit, meat and dairy, flowers and plant starts, and other fresh-off-the-land offerings. One of the defining joys of a farmers market, of course, is the ability to talk directly to the folks who grew or raised the food you’re buying, so don’t be afraid to ask questions and solicit some “behind-the-scenes” insights!
You can also choose from a diverse spread of prepared foods, from pickles, jams, and pastries to Mexican, Bosnian, Taiwanese, and other cuisine—plus craft beer and spirits.
The Waitsfield Farmers Market goes beyond the edible, too, to feature vendors selling jewelry, pottery, prints, and other arts and crafts as well as clothing and accessories.
Live Entertainment
The outstanding Mad River Valley foodstuffs and arts-and-crafts are definitely reason enough to pay the Waitsfield Farmers Market a visit, but your shopping and socializing comes enhanced by live entertainment from local musicians.
