We reckon any of our regular guests here at The Pitcher Inn fell pretty much head over heels for the charms of the Mad River Valley, our gorgeous and action-packed backyard, soon after their first introduction. We’re certainly not all that surprised when the region gets a high-profile shout-out, but we do like passing along some of these nice nods here and there, and we’ve got one to share to kick off the New Year.

Earlier this month, Devorah Lev-Tov included the nearby hamlet of Waitsfield, Vermont—less than 10 miles from our perch here in Warren—among “The Best Underrated Ski Towns in the US” for Tasting Table. Well, naturally, we rate Waitsfield and its surrounds pretty highly, but we suppose it’s possible not everybody in the country knows the special appeal of the Mad River Valley…

World-Class Skiing at Mad River Glen & Sugarbush

Lev-Tov notes Waitsfield’s proximity to Mad River Glen and Sugarbush, which she calls “two of the East Coast’ best and most underrated ski mountains.” Check out our recent blogpost spotlighting this pair of awesome resorts, both of which are a mere snowball’s toss from the Pitcher Inn.

Epicurean Fancies in the Mad River Valley

Lev-Tov also talks up some of the area’s fine eateries—American Flatbread, Localfolk Smokehouse, and Peasant—as well as Mad River Distillers and Lawson’s Finest, a topnotch microbrewery that happens to be our neighbor here in Warren.

And what do you know? (*cough, cough*) The Pitcher Inn lands a mention in the Tasting Table write-up, which calls us “a Relais & Châteaux property with a stellar restaurant that celebrates the area’s stunning mountains and local bounty.”

Explore Mad River Valley Magic With a Stay at The Pitcher Inn

If you want to experience the best of the Green Mountains and the Mad River Valley for yourself, come stay with us here at The Pitcher Inn in postcard-perfect Warren, Vermont, an easy jaunt from that “Best Underrated Ski Town” of Waitsfield to the north.

We’ll delight you with the rustic luxury of our Relais & Châteaux accommodations, ply you with fine dining and local craft libations at 275 Main and Tracks tavern, and position you within ready reach of some of the Northeast’s finest ski slopes and prettiest countryside. From cycling adventures, sugarhouse touring, and leaf-peeping to beer safaris and gallery-hopping, there’s an awful lot going on around here all across the calendar.

Set in Vermont’s rolling Green Mountains, The Pitcher Inn is just the type of place you’d want to retreat to after a day spent outside in the crisp fall air. The building is a Civil War-ear lodging house that was given new life in 1997 when it was revamped into the charming Pitcher Inn. What sets this hotel apart is the whimsically decorated suites — they’re each inviting and unique. Take a look inside and get inspired by the rustic and woodsy interior.

Yes, the riotous, colorful leaves are a big attraction of a Vermont autumn, but they’re certainly not the only one. Here in the Mad River Valley, we’ve also got some fantastic grassroots art galleries and museums.

Three cases in point: the Bundy Modern, the Walker Contemporary Gallery, and the Madsonian Museum of Industrial Design, all in and around the village of Waitsfield.

We know: We had you at “Beer Safari.”

Vermont is a national center for craft brewing. Given that America is a global leader in that department, it follows that the Green Mountain State is one of the best places in the world to have a locally made microbrew. And the Pitcher Inn’s headquarters here in the Mad River Valley turns out to be a pretty unbeatable springboard for tasting some top-quality suds. We make it easy for fans of craft beer to do just that with our special Beer Safari package!
